Keeping Carryback Out of the Way

conveyor scraper bladesConsistent production in bulk material handling is best achieved when a conveyor belt is clean and intact so it can continue to perform. Spillage around the head pulley and carryback dust and spillage indicate the belt’s cleaning system is compromised.

A worn conveyor belt scraper is often the source of the problem. The conveyor system depends on the scraper to remove carryback that causes:

  • Spillage under the conveyor return side
  • Excess dust
  • Material build-up along the system’s structures and moving parts

Carryback creates costly housekeeping and maintenance as well as belt mistracking and premature wear of equipment. The dust that carryback generates also leads to operational challenges and, more important, greater concerns for employee safety and regulatory compliance.

Optimal conveyor belt cleaning calls for a scraper with cutting-edge design and material of construction as well as the proper tensioning methods. In many cases, efficient and effective belt cleaning often includes two belt scrapers, a primary and a secondary.

Mounted to the head pulley below the material flow, primary belt scrapers remove the larger pieces of material that make up about two-thirds of initial carryback.

Located right past where the belt leaves the head pulley and anywhere else down the belt line, secondary cleaners scrape materials left on the belt beyond the head pulley, particularly fines.

Benetech Conveyor Belt Cleaners: Pioneering Engineering

Effective belt scraper blade

As your allies in safe and efficient bulk material handling, Benetech develops solutions that consider each vital aspect of conveyor belt cleaning.

Optimized for vulcanized belts, our BEP1 primary conveyor belt cleaner applies our state-of-the-art AdvantEdge™ technology urethane blade design, which often cleans the belt as effectively as many metal blade–type scrapers and without the risk of cutting or damaging the belt or splices.

The scraper is also simple to install and maintain, and its compact modular design mounts easily even in tight space. A self-adjusting tensioner further allows the BEP1 to clean consistently even as the blade wears.

BEP1 Belt Scraper Blade

To replace the BEP1 belt scraper, you need only take out a pin, remove the worn blade, slide in the new blade and replace the pin. We also offer replacement blades for high temperatures (pink blade), chemical resistance (navy blade) and abrasion resistance (yellow blade). The blades can be retrofitted to fit other brands of belt cleaner as well.

Benetech’s new BXS5 secondary conveyor belt cleaner features a tungsten carbide or ceramic blade with superior wear resistance and a torsion element for consistent blade-to-belt contact.

It is also available with a self-adjusting pneumatic tensioner or dual rosta tensioner to maintain precise, consistent tensioning for constant cleaning pressure throughout the life of the blade.
